There’s no worse feeling than having to drag yourself out of bed after a restless night of tossing and turning. You feel heavy and groggy, and you just can’t wait to snap at the next person to greet you a cheerful good morning.
Insomnia deprives your body of that much-needed rest, leaving you feeling haggard and stressed even before the next day officially begins. However, more than being inconvenient, insomnia is an actual disorder in itself, and possibly, is a manifestation of an even bigger health problem. I personally experience insomnia usually when I am undergoing a lot of stress. I was never a believer of popping pills to get a shuteye, so instead, I tried yoga. Immediately, I observed that I was getting better sleep patterns. Here are some reasons why.
Yoga Improves Blood Circulation
It is fairly common knowledge that the practice of yoga helps improve the flow of blood through your system. In relation to sleep, this is an advantage because it promotes calm and relaxation, promoting better chances at getting that shuteye you need.
Loosen Up Your Tight Muscles
Some people may find it hard to go to sleep because of the discomfort brought about by their tight muscles. Doing some yoga poses, such as the Extended Puppy, can help bring deep relaxation, particularly to your lower back and shoulders. This is one of my favorite poses precisely because it snaps my full length just right, letting me lie down comfortably afterwards.
Turning Oms Into Zzz’s
Last but not least, yoga teaches you how to meditate. This is an opportunity for you to clear your mind of cluttered thoughts, which can manifest into physical stress. The meditation also promotes good breathing, which helps put you into that deep slumber. Try this, and for sure, you’ll awaken the following day all rejuvenated and ready to take on another challenging 24 hours.
